Omega-3 fatty acids are multi-taskers and are therefore good for the development of the brain in newborns, for example, ensure more favorable blood lipid values and therefore better blood circulation, lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of a heart attack. This effect is achieved by the long-chain fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) contained in omega-3. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in particular should consume sufficient omega-3 fatty acids. According to nutritional science, we should eat fish two to three times a week to cover our need for polyunsaturated OMEGA 3 fatty acids. According to the DGE (German Nutrition Society), we should even consume 1 to 1.5 g of omega-3 fatty acids every day. As these healthy fatty acids are also found in the vegetable variety in rapeseed, soybean and walnut oil, we don’t always have to eat fish.
